kinda has a stockholm syndrome-esque relationship with her deity lolth. as a skilled rogue, lilith was one of lolth’s highest priestesses, who would constantly be in servitude to whatever lolth needed — from executions of the innocent, or self harm in acts of sacrifice, or any other wicked wrongdoings that lolth wanted to watch for her personal entertainment. whether for genuine importance or not, lilith survived the many dangerous missions she was sent on within the abyss. she would carry out many of these cruel requests in exchange for (manipulative, and fleeting) affection and praise. lolth began to disdain her unwavering obedience, finding it foolish and boring, so the spider queen threatened to kill lilith for her stagnant nature, deeming her unworthy of embodying true chaos. however, in recognition of her loyalty, instead of heartlessly executing her, lolth gave lilith a second chance at life by banishing her up to the surface instead, giving her a “mission” to bring her the head of corellon, a nearly impossible task, but one fit for an ambitious servant like her.
lilith’s initial goal was to search for corellon, slay him, then find a way back into the abyss, but during her travels, she ends up exploring her humanity on the surface and actually enjoys it. however, she is rattled with conflicting feelings about betraying her god, but comes to realize that lolth had betrayed her first. although it’s hard to accept, she allows herself to harbor bittersweet feelings towards lolth as she ventures away from her initial quest to slay corellon. she begins to stray away from her path of bloodshed to study healing magic in the ardeep forest near waterdeep, and later becomes a practicing cleric.
while on her usual bimonthly supply trip to waterdeep, she is captured by an illithid ship and infected with a parasite. when she escapes, she meets gale and starts to want to live life as a normal human who defies her god, just as gale defies his.
