scratch is one of the oldest creations in hyperspace, born from the monitor that displays the operating system AEREI was born from.
scratch is a shapeshifting plush that takes the form of any living being he has seen before. his original form was a line of dead pixels, until he adopted the appearance of a cat who was passing by his screen. when AEREI was born, he adopted a more grotesque appearance that better suited hyperspace, and initially roamed the world as a voided creature. when eleanor was created, she adopted scratch as her first test experiment for her healing magic, and was successful. in thanks for her compassion and saving him from his suffering, scratch vowed to serve eleanor as her guardian, specifically as a caretaker for the garden while she is gone.
because scratch only exists externally from the AEREI operating system, he cannot traverse worlds in a traditional sense by navigating through portals. instead, he is able to overlook hyperspace on a higher level, almost omnipresently, and can connect with the real world in ways hyperspace creatures cannot. in this way, he sometimes relays events happening in the real world to the creatures in hyperspace. this was the catalyst for AEREI to become more sentient, to the point of radicalization in search for a way to come back to the real world.
scratch’s form varies, but he mainly takes on the appearance of a deep purple cat and bunny hybrid, specifically with a cat head and a bunny-like body. his fangs are multiplied in number, and his claws are exceeding sharp when they are bared. scratch also has one black button eye, and a pink button eye. since scratch is a plushie, he does not bleed, but when injured, he spills out stuffing instead.
scratch is loyal, protective, and thoughtful. as the oldest living creature in hyperspace who is not tied to AEREI’s operating system, he has witnessed all sorts of events, listened in many conversations from the real world, and thus, has accumulated an abundance of knowledge. he is a very logical creature who tries to solve problems with reason and objectivity. he tries his best to stray away from violence, but is very much capable of it.
scratch’s primary form is quite large for a normal cat or bunny, almost at the size of a cheetah at around 5 ft. tall when standing on his hind legs, and weighing about 80 lbs.
scratch does not wear clothes, but wears a black leather spiked collar with his name engraved in the metal buckle.
